DIY Birdhouses

It was a rainy August afternoon today, so I decided to paint some birdhouses! I picked up the wooden frames from the dollar store, and painted them white, with a colourful roof.

I also freestyled some flowers to make a cute border! A simple, fun activity for a Saturday!

DIY Easter Eggs

‘Tis the time of year for DIY Easter eggs! This year, I decorated Deadpool, Minions, Cookie Monster and emoji eggs.

For this project, I bought plastic eggs, acrylic paint, a sharpie, and paint brushes. We also used a heater to speed up the drying process.

A quick note: try to avoid water colour paint. We used it the first time round, and found it much harder to work with. The acrylic paint dried faster, with minimal streaking.

DIY: Care Bears Inspired Valentine

It’s a Care Bears inspired Valentine’s Day!

This year, I wanted to make my Valentine his own card this year, and what cuter than with Care Bears? The Care Bears original artwork (as seen in this graphic) was painted by Elena Kucharik for American Greetings Corporation, LLC in the early 80s.

I used it, some cool fonts recommended by Sarah from Lady Hustle Blog, and a Cheer Bear quote from the original cartoon series. I think the elements work well together!

DIY: Ninja Turtle Christmas Decorations

Ninja Turtle Christmas decorations are by far the most fun, and loved craft I’ve done all year.

I got the idea from Dollar Store Crafts — and truthfully, most of my items were bought from our local dollar store except the googly eyes, which were purchased from Michael’s.

What you’ll need:

Ribbon (red, blue, purple and orange)
Green ball ornaments
Googly eyes

It’s pretty self explanatory. Wrap the ribbon around the ornament, make sure you leave enough to hang off, and paste the eyes on. Voila! Heroes in a half shell!

DIY: Paper Mâché Pumpkins

If you’re looking for a fun Hallowe’en craft, try your hand out at Paper Mâché Pumpkins.

I attempted the project with my mom. We couldn’t find orange tissue paper, so we improvised with orange streamers – although, I found it more difficult than the yellow tissue paper because it kept ripping. We also used water to thin out the glue.

What you’ll need: balloons, tissue paper (orange and yellow), paintbrush, small scissors, and wheat paste.

Instructions:
1) Paint inflated balloon with strips of orange tissue paper, and paste, until fully covered. Do this two times.
2) Repeat with yellow tissue paper. Do this two times.
3) Leave it overnight to dry.
4) Pop the ballon, and cut out the face.
5) Put small battery-powered light to brighten pumpkin
