Throwback Thursday: London, United Kingdom

This week, as I continue my travel photo throwbacks, I’m going to take you back to 2012 when I visited London England on my United Kingdom adventure. I stayed in the UK for about two weeks, and while I was there, I visited Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

This trip was the first time I traveled alone (on a plane). I stayed with my good friend, Lisa, in Luton for the majority of it. I also ventured out on my own on a few excursions, including Abbey Road, and Windsor Castle.

I shared the original posts many years ago, but I will be re-sharing in the coming days with freshly edited material. Until then, here is a refresher – some images from London, England.

Throwback Thursday: Portugal

Happy new year! It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted on here, but I am happy to announce a new photo project I am working on, which will be shared as Throwbacks. I have been digging up old travel photos, editing them, and will be postings segments periodically.

This week, here’s a peak into my Portugal trip almost a decade ago. I spent two weeks in the vibrant, colourful country in 2008, and traveled it all – from the Faro District (the Algarve), Lisbon, Porto, Fatima, and all the way north to Braga.

Toronto Christmas Market 2016

It’s that time of year again; it’s time for the Toronto Christmas Market 2016 in the city’s Distillery District! The TCM is ranked one of the Top 10 Holiday Markets in the World — for good reason, I would say. The food is always delicious, the environment is pristine, and the 50-foot Norway spruce donated by by Forests Ontario & Ontario Wood is quite the grand sight!

This year, I once again went with my cousin Judy. We also added two new additions to our yearly tradition: her boyfriend Robbie, and of course, Scott.

It was decided we go early in the morning (again), to avoid the busy lunchtime and evening crowds. We stayed for about two hours, enjoyed some hot cocoa and giant pretzels (mmm my favourite!).

Other notable actives include Santa’s house, meet-and-greet with the elves, carollers, and the Heart of Christmas photo opt!

You can check out my previous TCM entries here: 20152014,2013.

Iceland: Blue Lagoon & Thorvaldsen Bazar (Pt. 8)

On my last full day in Iceland I enjoyed the Blue Lagoon – a geothermal spa is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. The spa is located in a lava field in Grindavík in southwestern Iceland.

I opted out for the standard ticket for the Blue Lagoon, which includes the Silica Mud Mask and entrance into the lagoon. We brought our own towels.

This was my second attempt applying the mask in the rain!

My final duty in Iceland was to head to Reykjavík. I wanted to go to Thorvaldsen Bazar – one of the oldest shops in the city. They sell both machine-made and handmade wool sweaters. The woman who worked behind the counter helped me try a few on, and almost instantly I found the one I liked! Some of the proceeds from my purchase also went towards their sick children’s foundation.

Iceland: Reykjanes Peninsula (Pt. 7)

As we wind down our Iceland adventure, my second last day in the country was spent on the Reykjanes Peninsula, about one hour south of the capital Reykjavik.

Here you’ll find the “Bridge Between Continents,” otherwise known as the Mid Atlantic Ridge connecting the North American plate to the European one.

In the same area, you’ll be able to see Reykjanesviti – Iceland’s oldest lighthouse. It serves as a landfall light for Reykjavík and Keflavík. The original lighthouse that stood in the late 1800s was destroyed by an earthquake. A new one was build in 1929.

A few more steps down the way is a memorial the Great Aux, was a flightless bird of the alcid family that became extinct.

And while we were there, we also checked out the nearby geothermal areas. It was WINDY! Probably close to 80 km/hour. I had to take off my hat or else it would have blown away!
