East Coast Trip: Halifax, Nova Scotia

I’ve been back from the East Coast for almost two months now. It’s hard to believe how fast time flies! After sharing four posts, Newfoundland and a three-part Prince Edward Island entry, I am moving a bit more west to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

I didn’t spend much time in Halifax, Nova Scotia but I can tell you the waterfront is gorgeous. It’s packed with bars, restaurants, high-end clothing stores, and of course … lots of tourists.

Locals tell me, Halifax, Nova Scotia has a large student community. Thousands head east to go to some of our country’s top institutions. My dad got his degree at Dalhousie University – a public research university, with three campuses in Halifax alone. He’s said many times, Nova Scotia is his favourite province, making it a place I just had to check out.

While I was there, I had lunch at Murphys (a boathouse styled restaurant), visited Alexander Keith’s (a NS brewery founded back in the 1800’s), and took a short stroll past the waterfront and down Lower Water Street.

  1. Wonderful photos and article. Very informative! You must have had a lovely time! 🙂

  2. Hi Emily… thanks for dropping by yesterday… my pc was being revived… i just got back online today….

we spent a lot of time on the boardwalk in Halifax Harbour… it the best place to be when the tall ships are there… the atmosphere is electric… and the pubs are all full…

i love the mural of the lighthouse and village on the fence….peter:)

    1. I agree Peter. It was so much more lively than PEI … completely different atmosphere, although I still preferred the gentle beauty of PEI. I think I would want to travel the coast of NS, and see Cape Breton and other major points. 🙂

  3. great shots, i like the very clean look about them. i really liked the smooth, sparse sky. enjoyable narrative too

  4. These last posts from you, Emily, are making me want to get out my photos of my trip to New England and NS, Canada, from several years ago. It really is such a beautiful place in our world! I wouldn’t mind going back…..

    1. Ginnie, I admire your travel experience. There are so many places I still have yet to see. Next on the list, I am hoping to head out west to Alberta and British Columbia. Two provinces I am just dying to see and take photos of!!

  5. Looks like such a picturesque coastal city! You captured it beautifully, Emily! I’ll have to add a visit to my bucket list.

    1. YOU MUST! Although, I still preferred PEI. I think if I had more time to travel the coast in Nova Scotia, I may have different feelings.
