Throwback Thursday: Pickering’s Frenchman’s Bay

Pickering’s Frenchman’s Bay: September 21, 2011. Beautiful, calm and the sun was just setting. It’s been five years since I’ve taken these photos, but it seems like just yesterday.

One of my best friends, Lisa, was getting ready to pack her bags, and move to the hustle and bustle of London, England. Fast-forward to present day: she married the love of her life – a fellow from Luton, and she is getting ready to begin a new chapter; a chapter which includes a bit more Canada.

This post is for you, Lisa. I can’t wait to see you again, and maybe this summer, we can recreate such a special night.

Durham Forest

Vast and beautiful … a day at Durham Forest!

This past Sunday, we spent our afternoon hiking the more leisurely trails (Baby Butter and Big Butter) of Durham Forest. We snapped photos, admired the mountain and fat bikes, and flew Scott’s new Dji Phantom 3 Professional Quadcopter Drone. It was snowing off-and-on, making it a bit challenging, but still worth the adventure!

According to Ontario Trails, “This forest encompasses a 405 hectare area that is located at the top of the Oak Ridges Moraine, and is renowned for its excellent cross-country skiing, mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding.”

The trails are also great for families – we saw a number of dog walkers, small children, and sledders, but unfortunately, not any wildlife.

Happy 2016: a holiday snapshot

I’m a little tardy with this post, but happy 2016!

I hope you all had a nice holiday; I sure did. My Christmas Eve was filled with family, and as per tradition, a gift exchange with my cousin, Judy. It was a very Elf and One Direction-filled afternoon!

My Christmas and New Year’s was filled with warmth and lasting memories, including a HUGE surprise from my cousin – who came home from the Yukon for the holidays! (I will soon be there for a visit! Six weeks and counting)

And, I celebrated my 28th birthday last week at Cinderella: The Musical at the Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto. WAIT, though. That wasn’t the end of birthday celebrations; I had a intimate dinner with my friends at the beautiful Waterfront Bistro in Pickering.

So, here’s to the new year! I see great things on the horizon. Three incredible trips are planned: Yukon, Norway/Sweden, and Iceland, and I will find even more local adventure with the boy I met 13 years ago; the boy who has come back into my life in the most unexpected way. I’m looking forward to what this year will bring.

SNOW!

It finally snowed! We didn’t see a white Christmas this year, but the white stuff still arrived for my holidays.

As per my usual routine, I headed to Greenwood Conservation Area for a couple of snow-fused photos. I was really excited this season because of my furry zip-up, wool scarf and mittens from Garage Clothing – I waited all season for this glorious day!

Toronto Christmas Market 2015

It’s the most wonderful time of year; it’s time for the Toronto Christmas Market! And as per tradition ( 2014,2013), I went with my cousin to enjoy the sights and sounds of the holidays.

We got a 9 a.m. start to Toronto to beat the crowds, enjoyed an early morning pretzel (yum, yum), met Rudolph, and I bought THE BESTEST Charlie Brown Christmas mug from RetroFestive Christmas Store booth (NOTE: they also have an Oakville outlet).

Did I mention we also took a photo under the giant Christmas heart/mistletoe because we’re awesome? 🙂
