My new Sinatra hat from Beau Chapeau

My new Sinatra hat from Beau Chapeau is so amazing, I had to no choice but to blog about.

As mentioned in my last post, I have become Beau Chapeau‘s newest fan! I revisited the shop, located at 42 Queen Street in Niagara-on-the-lake, this week and made a purchase I am sure to remember forever. I bought a replica Frank Sinatra fedora.

Beau Chapeau carries the Sinatra Hats line; a collection of hats and fedoras that embodies the timeless style of Frank Sinatra. I picked this particular style because the rim was longer and could be flipped out. The fedora itself is crafted with wool felt, complete with a leather inner band and satin lining with the orange signature Sinatra trim.

Sinatra Hats embody the time period, and capture the classic image of Ol’ Blue Eyes. I’ve been a fan of the crooner for as long as I can remember, and owning something of this quality makes it worth the money.

Pickering Village

I’ve been all around Ajax and Pickering Village continues to be one of my favourite locations – in terms of community activity and picturesque settings.

The historic area is located in the went end of Ajax, often mistaken for City of Pickering territory. According to the Town of Ajax website, it was “once an original Quaker Settlement in the early 1800’s …”

Today, the district features a number of professional businesses, including the Village Ice Cream Shoppe and Jazzberry Tea. The area houses local artists, with it’s long-time running music school, professional hair stylists along with a number of local bakeries and eateries.

The area is also the scene of the the town’s popular jazz festival during the summer months, and features its own tree-lighting during the holidays.

Town of Ajax Waterfront

The Town of Ajax Waterfront features six kilometers of unspoiled park land, stretching across the town’s southern border along the shores of Lake Ontario. In summary, the land totals over 150 acres, and serves more than 100,000 residents.

But those are just the stats. The Town of Ajax Waterfront and its Rotary Park are gorgeous areas, surrounded by some million dollar homes, overlooking the greenery and scenic views of the lake. The waterfront is a great place to see wildlife – especially for bird watchers; a spring/summer hot spot for picnics, a crisp early morning jog, along with kite flying and biking

This is perhaps the Town of Ajax’s most popular and incredible feature – always a picturesque scene.

The following photos were snapped for a three-month long project I did for the town last year. Click here to learn more about the waterfront’s key attractions and mapping information.

Pickering Village Ice Cream Shoppe

One of my favourite spots in the Durham Region is Pickering Village Ice Cream Shoppe. With a wide range of flavours – my favourite being Moose Tracks – you’ll definitely find some classic and adventurous tastes.

I’ve been a huge fan of the Village Ice Cream Shoppe for as long as I can remember. During the summer months, their doors are always open and business is always booming – especially during events like the Pickering Village Jazz Festival.

Chocolate Margaret, who’ve I’ve met on a number of occasions while working for a local newspaper, owns this shop. She used to run That Chocolate Shoppe by the Lake – first located out of her home, and eventually moving to the village. Sadly, she’s closed down the store. But what I know about Margaret: she’s an entrepreneur, an advocate for our community, and seems to spearhead a lot of great local events.

Recently, I completed a job for the Town of Ajax which required snapping everyday life in the area. I, of course, stopped by here. It’s always worth the drive – or a bike ride if you’re up for burning those ice cream calories!

If you ever stop by the town, go in. You won’t be disappointed. Check out the Pickering Village Ice Cream Shoppe website for more information.
