One of my favourite spots in the Durham Region is Pickering Village Ice Cream Shoppe. With a wide range of flavours – my favourite being Moose Tracks – you’ll definitely find some classic and adventurous tastes.
I’ve been a huge fan of the Village Ice Cream Shoppe for as long as I can remember. During the summer months, their doors are always open and business is always booming – especially during events like the Pickering Village Jazz Festival.
Chocolate Margaret, who’ve I’ve met on a number of occasions while working for a local newspaper, owns this shop. She used to run That Chocolate Shoppe by the Lake – first located out of her home, and eventually moving to the village. Sadly, she’s closed down the store. But what I know about Margaret: she’s an entrepreneur, an advocate for our community, and seems to spearhead a lot of great local events.
Recently, I completed a job for the Town of Ajax which required snapping everyday life in the area. I, of course, stopped by here. It’s always worth the drive – or a bike ride if you’re up for burning those ice cream calories!
If you ever stop by the town, go in. You won’t be disappointed. Check out the Pickering Village Ice Cream Shoppe website for more information.
Love how you captured the sprinkles…. tempting.
It is such a delight! Thanks for the comments! 🙂
Wow how yummy this looks! What a great article and what great photos too. Looks like a great place to visit! 🙂
I have never had ice cream this good. Much better to support a local business, as well! 🙂
i like this Pickering Village Ice Cream Shoppe very much… they have a wonderful variety and still remind me of a privately owned shop… your pictures have my mouth watering Emily… and i love the smile on the young lady serving you your Moose Track cone….peter:)
Thank you Peter! Such kind words as always. I thought these photos would be a hit! To my knowledge, there aren’t a ton of privately owned ice cream shops, so it’s great this place is still around. They’ve been in the region for many years. 🙂
Those ice creams look really delicious. And you have captured them in a way that makes the mouth start watering. I love the way you have used light and happy colours – perfect for the subject.
Thanks Otto! I was very lucky with the natural light in these photos … really shows just how colourful and beautiful the shop is.
A shoppe and lady after my own heart, Emily. We have an Italian ice-cream shoppe here in town, a 5-minute walk away, and we stop by every weekend throughout the year (except for the 2 months it’s closed after Christmas) to have one scoop of ijs. It’s the size of a golfball, or just a bit bigger…and is always enough for us, for €1. Those little treats totally make our day/life here where we live. 🙂
OOh Italian gelato!? I had it only once in my life, but it was the best I’ve ever had. <3 Hopefully soon I will be in Europe again for a second tasting.
Ah, there is nothing like ice cream! Yum!
Agreed, Mats! It’s perfect even in cold winter days.
i want ice cream !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
